Accreditation in Professional Wealth Management

This certificate accreditation and the process are based on the professional competency standards designed for Professional Wealth Manager (PWM). It is also formed with the basis from training and case materials taught in the professional wealth manager courses. Accreditation participants are required to achieve corresponding competent levels via lectures, case practices, and online learning that are provided by recognized training institutions. IPAA offers two professional certifications in wealth management, they are listed below:


I. Certified Professional Wealth Manager (CPWM)

To demonstrate adequate professional knowledge and skills, applicants for Certified Professional Wealth Manager

Application criteria

  • Middle-level or above management work experience in relevant financial institutions for at least 7 years; or
  • Bachelor degree (or equivalent) in non-finance related majors and at least 3 years of related work experience (includes); or
  • Bachelor degree (or equivalent) in finance-related majors and at least 1 year of related work experience (includes); or
  • Currently or Graduate students of Master degree (or equivalent) in finance-related majors; or
  • Completed the professional wealth manager training course organized by an IPAA Recognised Training Course Provider (RTCP).

II. Senior Certified International Wealth Manager (SCIWM)

In order to demonstrate adequate professional knowledge and skills, applicants for Senior Certified  International Wealth Manager are required to pass at least 2 papers in SCIWM accreditation:

  1. General Professional Examination (I) (Single choice of 60 questions); and
  2. General Professional Examination (II) (Case Analysis 10 questions)

Application criteria

Applicants must be a CPWM and fulfill one of the following conditions:

  • Middle-level or above management work experience in relevant financial institutions for at least 7 years; or
  • Bachelor degree (or equivalent) in non-finance-related major and at least 5 years of related work experience; or
  • Bachelor degree (or equivalent) in finance-related majors and at least 3 years of related work experience; or
  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in finance-related majors and at least 2 years of related work experience; or
  • Holder of Ph.D. in finance-related majors for over 1 year

Accreditation target

  • Professionals (family lawyers, tax planners, financial planners, etc.) involved in private wealth management and family wealth inheritance services; or
  • Employees of professional institutions (private banking, insurance, trusts, securities, private equity, family offices, tripartite wealth management, law firms, etc.); or
  • Senior management; and
  • High-net-worth individuals (HNWI) are involved in managing their wealth and inheritance planning.
